Comedian, writer, and stage four throat cancer survivor, Joe Yannetty will entertain, inspire and motivate your audience with his heartfelt story and hysterical insight. As a featured act on the 20th Anniversary of Denis Leary's 2014 Comics Come Home cancer fundraiser at Boston's TD Garden, just months after treatment, Joe wowed the over 20 thousand in attendance in his comeback debut.
“When I got cancer, I didn’t know if I’d ever speak, or perform again,” Joe said.
Check out Joe's video demo!
At his lowest point Yannetty’s old friend Denis Leary reached out and inspired Joe to get out of bed and back onstage. Sharing the stage with Jimmy Fallon, Michael J. Fox, and many others at this fundraiser for former Boston Bruins star player Cam Neely’s Neely House, Joe adds, "I did a routine about cancer and it was the talk of the show. I'm happier than I've ever been in my life. I'm in love, I have more work than I can handle, and I’m traveling around the world doing what I love to do. I can speak. My mouth is a bit dry, but I'm alive and it's OK. Everything is perfect."
Yannetty starred in the HBO film Suckers which he co-wrote with Roger Nygard and won a "Best Screenwriter" award.
Joe’s brother, David Yannetty, put his own life on hold for months in order to live with, and take care of Joe throughout his entire treatment period. The amazing comedy community in Boston, and throughout the United States, rallied around their buddy Joe holding fundraisers as far away from his home in New Hampshire as Hermosa Beach, California. Joe said, “Learning to allow people to help me was one of the most important lessons of my life.”
Yannetty said the loved and warmth he received from his caregivers along with his own skills helped him during the toughest times. “There were days during treatment when I’d sleep 22 hours,” he explains, “So whenever I was awake I was trying to keep my sense of humor up
And while Yannetty was initially concerned about permanently losing his voice, and with it his career, he was soon ready for his first time back on stage – in a very special performance. “I rented out a Lion’s Club hall down the street from the [DF/NHOH] center, and scheduled a performance for a day and time all my caregivers could make it,” Yannetty says. “I did some regular material, but also a lot of jokes about my treatment. It was great to see them laughing along with me.”
Joe's oncologist, Dr. Frederick M. Briccett said he knew what a toll cancer had taken on his patient, the show was a revelation. “I came away from his performance thinking, ‘Joe is a comedian, yes. But what he is, at heart, is a storyteller. The way he was able to put together that account of his life-changing experience clearly helped him heal. It was cathartic for us, who helped him through. It was also incredibly funny.”
Yannetty agrees, and when he returned to the regular comedy circuit last fall he kept some of his new material about cancer treatment in the act.
“People are afraid to joke about cancer because they think it’s the boogeyman, but you need to face it,” he says. “If I can help people who are going through it – if they can laugh a little bit at the whole thing, like I do – that’s great.”
Today, Joe is alive and funnier than ever performing at the top comedy clubs and cruise ships as well as being a keynote inspirational and motivational speaker on Cancer and the importance of humor in dealing with tragedy.
Yannetty is currently working on a book about his ordeal and looks forward to sharing his story with you and making you laugh. READ MORE>>>

Derek Richards
“The only thing surprising about Derek is that he’s not bigger.” - Florida New Times
Comedian and cancer survivor, Derek Richards’ act is fast, fresh, and at times, fanatical. Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan in a blue collar household, Derek brings to the stage his life experiences, opinions and comedic spins on everything from his child-free existence, his divorce, and yes, his bout with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Proving that you can find laughter in the most dire times.
Diagnosed at 33 years old with the illness, Derek looked at his setback as ‘a really bad case of the flu, that I will deal with.’ He was very insular, yet positive about his recovery. Now in remission since July 1999.
“Cancer is the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me. It made me appreciate every day that you have on this planet.” - Derek Richards
Richards jokes, ‘This all happened to me before social media even existed, which is great, because the last thing I wanted plastered all over the internet were pictures of my big ass bald chemo head... I only told a select few people about my cancer. I never wanted a pity party because no one knows what to say to you when you’re going through this. As for losing my hair, I told my close friends to tell people that I lost a bet, probably on the Detroit Lions, which is very believable.’
“Your performance was everything we wanted! Clean, high caliber and funny!”- Lisa Manendo, Lord Corporation
‘The worst part of going through the cancer diagnosis and treatment is the unknown. Is it gone yet? Is it going to come back? When can I start drinking again? When they told me when I had to eat more vegetables, I was on board. They said to cut back on red meat, fine. You gotta stop drinking – now you just told me there’s no Santa Claus or SportsCenter.’
“We knew you were funny when we saw your videos, but you were even more hysterical in person.” - Greg Bottorff, United Therapeutics
Richards has been seen on Comedy Central and The Weather Channel and is heard on The Bob and Tom Show and on SiriusXM satellite radio. His third comedy album, ‘60 MPH School Zone’, earned honorable mention accolades in the International Song Writing Competition.
Derek is also a regular with Battle Comics and Armed Forces Entertainment bringing laughter to the troops around the world having performed in more than 15 countries including Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the latter trip earned him national coverage in Newsweek magazine.
“Derek was a delight to work with. Everyone commented how great he was and if we can have him again! I would definitely recommend him.” - Camille Wolfe, Healthy Smiles of Spartanburg
Richards realized that sharing his cancer experience and dealing with his struggles through humor, strikes a cord with audience members at every show.
"Everybody knows someone who has / had cancer and they can relate to what I'm saying. I also put a comedy spin on my journey to help people realize that it's okay to laugh at this. Don't just fight your illness with medicine, fight it with a sense of humor."
Yesterday is gone, tomorrow is not guaranteed, enjoy the now, is what Derek wants everyone to walk away with. Live every moment.
